I write and edit from the Catskills, where the quiet makes room for bigger questions. From here, I explore beauty, aging, motherhood, memory, and the immigrant experience — though mostly, I’m chasing the meaning of life. My work can be serious, though I try not to take myself too seriously.

About

With more than a decade in marketing and editorial, I’ve gathered a few credentials: a B.A. in Fiction from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction underway at Hunter College.

My path has placed me in the company of award-winning writers whose guidance still influence my sentences. Of all my mentors, I owe the most to, in chronological order: Kristopher Jansma, Phillip Lopate, Sam Lipsyte, and Margo Jefferson. (Thank you for your encouragement — and for reminding me to trust my talent.)

Projects

I am the founder of the upstate arts and culture publication DVEIGHT and the women’s lifestyle journal Upstate Woman, where I serve as writer, editor, publisher, creative director — and sometimes delivery girl.

Experiments

To manage my dread over the state of the world, I’ve set aside my novel-in-progress and begun writing short essays on love, loss, and the longing for something more real. Read my latest piece for Harper’s Bazaar on rewatching Sex and the City after 40 here.

Press

Every now and then, I find myself in the press — a little mention here, a nod there, an odd profile here, and even a Tiffany’s ad here.

Write me an email at ms.nhimundy@gmail.com or message me on Instagram.

If all else fails, you can stalk me on weekends at Bà & Me, slinging pho and wiping down tables at the Vietnamese restaurant I somehow ended up running.
